Always wanted to work with gold but is the price of gold a deterrent? In this one-day jewelry class, students will learn the ancient Korean technique of Keum-Boo; which is applying thin sheets of 24k gold to silver using heat.

Students will learn how to prep sterling silver and fine silver, apply 24k gold foil, and use patina to create black and gold contrast.

At the end of class, students will have completed a pair of dangle earrings and a pendant and if time allows, a ring.

Class duration: 6 hours with a 20-minute break for lunch.

Prerequisite: None; though if you wish to make a ring, you will need to have taken Metals 1

Last day to cancel for a full refund or credit is June 18, 2023.  After this date, no refunds or credits will be given. No exceptions. Please review our FAQ page for directions and dress code.  By registering for the class you agree to our policies and dress code.

About the instructor, Michele Throne

Michele Throne HeadshotMichele’s first dip into metalsmithing started with a high school class. She then picked it back up after getting her BFA at Florida State University. She’s been a full time jeweler for 11 years, and has been teaching art since 1998 and metalsmithing since 2012. She has taught workshops in the Boulder area for over a decade.

Her deep love and appreciation for everything outdoors and love for people inspire her to create jewelry focused on nature and the human experience.

A few of Michele's favorite things: rock climbing, unlikely animal friendship videos, and chai tea on her back deck on a summer morning.
