Learn how to make dainty stone stacking rings in this half day workshop!  

This class differs from our Metals 2 class in which you will earn how to use pre-fabricated bezel cups to set your calibrated stone, whereas in Metals 2 you learn how to make the bezel setting from scratch.  The benefit of using pre-made bezel cups for calibrated stones is that it helps save time and you are

At the end of class, you will have completed one sterling silver ring with a round calibrated cabochon from our school inventory (lab-grown sapphire, ruby, peridot, onyx, or turquoise). 

We will cover:

  • Ring sizing
  • Working with sterling silver wire
  • Soldering
  • Forming
  • Sweat soldering
  • Texturing metal
  • Stone setting on a ring
  • Polish and finish work

Class Duration: Sunday, February 5, 10:00-2:00 with a short break for lunch

We have a mini fridge and microwave, a separate conference room and a deck with a mountain view where you can relax on your break. We also have Nespresso coffee, tea, and snacks available for purchase.

Prerequisite: Intro to Metalsmithing, Level 1 Metalsmithing, Metals 1, or equivalent is required.

Tools and Materials

You will need to bring your own KN95 or N95 mask to use while polishing.  If you do not have one, we have them for sale for $5 (limit 1 per person).

Base materials fee for silver/studio materials is $15 + stone selected (+$5 for non-precious stones, +$15 for lab-grown sapphire or ruby).

About the instructor, Kenzie Nelson

Kenzie Nelson instructor at Silver Peak StudioKenzie has been enveloped by art and art making her entire life and loves nothing more than connecting with others through the act of creating. After taking an introduction to metalsmithing class in her first year of college, she became infatuated with the medium. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Colorado State University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a concentration in metalsmithing and jewelry making. She loves sharing her passion with others and has teaching experience ranging from K-12 art, museum education classes, as well as collegiate level metalsmithing courses.

Her work has been exhibited throughout the U.S. in curated and juried exhibitions, most recently in The Feminist Art Museum’s Protest and Protect and the Greater Denton Arts Council’s Materials: Hard and Soft.

Some of Kenzie’s favorite things are colorful eyeshadow, animals, and coffee. Making art is her favorite activity, but she and also enjoys going to flea markets, gardening, and being outside.
