Expand your skill set in the world of gemstone jewelry in our professional metalsmithing jewelry school in Louisville! In this 6 hour class, you will learn how to set faceted stones into tube settings, which gives a clean and modern look to your jewelry designs. At the end of class, you will have completed a pair of bar or disc faceted stone earrings or two pendants.
We will cover:
- Tube setting: overview, sizing, and fitting
- Stone selection
- Measuring stones
- Forming metal
- Texturing metal
- Soldering tube settings
- Faceted stone setting in tube setting
Class is 6 hours with a 45 minute break for lunch. We have a mini fridge and microwave, a separate lunch room and a deck with a mountain view where you can relax on your break. We also have Nespresso coffee, tea, and snacks available for purchase.
Prerequisite: Metals 1 or equivalent

Tools and Materials
Tools needed: You will need to bring your own KN95 or N95 mask to use while polishing. If you do not have one, we have them for sale for $6 (limit 1 per person).
Materials Fee is $40 which includes silver, tube settings, and two 5 mm faceted stones. You can bring your own calibrated 5 mm round faceted stones and $10 will be deducted from the fee. Cash, check, or venmo accepted. payable to Silver Peak Studio.
About the instructor, Emily Ehr:
Emily Ehr graduated from Metropolitan State University in Denver, Colorado with a BFA in Metalsmithing/Jewelry design and Communication Design.
She has worked with metals for over 33 years, and has taken workshops around the country from notable metalsmithing artists that include Andy Cooperman, Ira Sherman, Elliot Pujol, Deb Stoner, Jerry Scavezze, David Norrie, Kirk McNeill, Hoss Haley, Richard Sweetman and Craig Wright among many others.
