Have you ever looked at a channel-set stone ring and think: "how the heck do they get those stones into those channels securely and without destroying the metal?"

In this one-day class, you will learn how to properly set stones into a channel setting.  At the end of class, you will have completed one channel-set ring with CZ's as shown in the second photo.  You'll get to choose from a straight channel ring or a Chevron-style channel ring.

We will cover:

  • cutting seats for stones
  • securing stones between two opposing walls, 
  • make sure tables of all stones are level and even, 
  • set stones with proper spacing between stones
  • set stones so that they are all at the same height
  • polishing and finishing techniques


  • 8 contact hours, ages 16+
  • Sunday, April 14, 9:00-5:00
  • 5 students max.
  • Tools will be provided
  • Materials kit: $75 which includes one straight or curved sterling silver channel ring burs and setting tools, which will be yours to keep. Each student will work at their own dedicated jeweler's bench. 
  • Prerequisite: Metals 1 and 2, or equivalent

About the Instructor, Cheyenne Hughes

Cheyenne Hughes headshotCheyenne is a Denver native who's been practicing jewelry making since 2009. Over that time he's been fortunate enough to have apprenticed under the accomplished jeweler/blacksmith Ira Sherman. That 6 year
apprenticeship landed him a job as a bench jeweler working for platinum and gold expert John Sholl of J.F. Sholl Fine Jewelry in Littleton, CO.

Cheyenne is currently running his own jewelry studio in Denver where he offers casting and other jewelry production services to the general public as well as other jewelers.
