Always wanted to work with gold but not sure where to start? In this one-day jewelry class, students will learn the ancient Korean technique of Keum-Boo; which is applying thin sheets of 24k gold to silver using heat.

Students will learn how to depletion guild sterling silver, apply 24k gold foil, and use patina to create black and gold contrast.

At the end of class, students will have a simple ring with a Keum-Boo gold disc, and a sheet of silver with gold that can be used to make simple earrings or a pendant.

Class duration: 8 hours with a 45-minute break for lunch.

Prerequisites: beginning metalsmithing (Metals 1) or equivalent.

Last day to cancel for a full refund: December 3, 2021.

Tools and Materials:

Tools will be provided.  You need to bring your own mask as well as a N95 or KN95 mask for polishing.

Materials fees: (bring cash - exact change is appreciated)

  • $35 for gold foil
  • Students can bring a 1" by 2" piece of fine silver sheet and 1" by 1" piece of sterling (any gauge between 20, 22, or 24 gauge) or they can buy silver for an additional $25
