Curious about color or looking to create miniature works of art? Learn how to create colorful jewelry through the centuries-old enameling technique of Limoges.

This technique gained popularity in Limoges, France during the 15th century when painters began applying their knowledge around oil painting, to the art of enameling. First a layer of enamel (powdered glass) is fused to metal using a torch. Then using a special kind of ceramic enamel paint, students will work in layers to create intricate and colorful imagery to be permanently bonded to the metal below.

Students will learn:

  • Sifted enamel application
  • Torch use
  • Firing of enamels with a focus on timing and placement
  • Color blending and composition review
  • Enamel paint application (working in layers)
