Professional Finishes for Jewelry - June 29

Go beyond the bristle discs and discover how to create professional finishes like seen in fine jewelry stores.  At the end of the day, students will leave with a polished ring in their desired finish.

We will cover:

• Overview of polishing compounds and how to use them
• Creating different kinds finishes (i.e. satin vs. mirror)
• How to polish in tiny nooks and crannies (i.e. prong setting)
• How to use an ultrasonic cleaner and magnetic tumbler
• How to use a sandblaster

Details:

• 6 contact hours, ages 14+ at the Silver Peak Studio Classroom located at 100.5 E. Cleveland St. Lafayette 80026
• Saturday, June 29 from 10:00-4:00. You must be able to attend both sessions and no makeups will be given.
• # students: 3 minimum, 6 maximum
• Materials kit fee is TBD and will include a cast sterling silver ring band from Cheyenne, along with studio materials (polishing compounds and mandrels). Materials fee will be due by the end of class via cash, check, or Venmo.
• Each student will work at their own dedicated jeweler's bench. 
• Prerequisite: Intro to Metalsmithing, Metals 1, or equivalent

About the Instructor, Cheyenne Hughes

Cheyenne is a Denver native who's been practicing jewelry making since 2009. Over that time he's been fortunate enough to have apprenticed under the accomplished jeweler/blacksmith Ira Sherman. That 6 year
apprenticeship landed him a job as a bench jeweler working for platinum and gold expert John Sholl of J.F. Sholl Fine Jewelry in Littleton, CO.

Cheyenne is currently running his own jewelry studio in Denver where he offers casting and other jewelry production services to the general public as well as other jewelers.
